Just bought a 3 Coin Sovereign collection
 

2009 Mint sealed.
Anyway, checking the coins, the mirror finish has this speckle effect.
Is this a defect/impurity? Or do all mirror finish proofs have this (under 10x magnification)
The coins are cameo proofs with mirror backgrounds and matte images

I don't know enough about numismatics to make an intelligent reply, sorry.

If it's only visible with a 10X mag it could be left-over deposits of detergent or something that the coins were cleaned with. No way to know without removing them from their cases though, and I assume that would potentially lessen the numismatic value.

Thank you for the reply. The speckle effect I am speaking of is on the coins as I removed them from the capsules. They are Mint sealed so they shouldn't have been cleaned.

I was wondering if this is a die related issue in proofs as it is only visable on the mirror finishes
